Surreal Toshangi Gorge, Sindh- Pakistan
Pakistan is blessed with diverse landscape. In north it has some of the breathtaking mountain peaks that entices mountaineers from around the world whereas in south, it has areas that hold the potential to become top tourist spot in the world. One such spot that you would you like to know is Tushangi Gorge, often referred to as ‘Grand Canyon of Sindh’. If you have heard of Grand Canyon in US, yes in Pakistan we have area with similar landscape. Isn’t it a good news?
While Sindh has fair share of tourist influx due to it having sites of archeological sites, such as Indus Valley civilization that is categorized as Bronze age civilization. While there are numerous archeological sites, Islamic architecture is amongst things that tourist get to visit.
Toshangi gorge is place less travelled by in Sindh. Located near the border of Balochistan & Sindh, the gorge is in Kirthar mountain range in Sindh. The climate of the area is quite harsh and ironically Kirthar in Sindhi language means ‘Milk Cream’.
The Area has very limited number of pictures available online, with few of them circulating have been taken by veteran trekkers like Aziz Ahmad jamali and Hanif Bhatti who have been to various areas across Pakistan.

The Gorge is believed to be 700 ft deep, formed by flowing water of Kenjhi river. Since the landscape of the area is akin to Grand Canyon in U.S, A british archeologist, Hugh trevor, gave this place its present name ‘Grand Canyon of Sindh’.
Travel Guide to visit Toshangi Gorge:
Travelling to Toshangi Gorge would be challenging since this area is not much heard of, neither does this area sees a reasonable no of tourism infux. To get to Toshangi Gorge, òne has to begin their journey from Larkana by going westward towards Kambar town and further towards village of Garhi Khan Muhammad. The same road leads to Ghaibi Dero which is approximately 64 Km from Larkana. Important to note that Ghaibi Dero lies at the head of Khenji River, and from here you have to book jeeps and travel westwards to get to Toshangi Gorge.
Following an hour’s journey, one reaches ‘Rahu jo Aitho’ village which is not only the starting point of Toshangi gorge but also from where you have to undertake a 1 day long journey on foot along the river. The ‘Lohiro’ marks the point from where Khenji Rivers turns Northward and nearby lies Kirthar Ridge Crack spanning upto 5000 ft peak of Machhal.
The two banks of Toshangi gorge run as high as 700 ft, which is above surface of River Khenji. In case you are planning to travel to this area, It is advised to go through Chandio Family at Ghaibi Dero.
